We heard some commotion over at Table 2, including multiple players calling for cards, so we went over to investigate what was happening. Vanik Azizian, who has been cruising along with a big stack the entire day, looked to be in prime position to vault his way into the overall chip lead with 24 players left, as he was had two players all in pre flop while holding two black aces. Amazingly, his opponents held the same hand, pocket queens, with Vardan Sargsyan holding [Qc][Qd].
A low flop would have all but ended the hand, but instead the dealer put out as juicy a flop as possible, coming [Ad][Kd][Jc]. This gave Azizian top set, but also gave his opponents out for a straight. However, it was only two outs, as another player at the table claimed to have folded pocket tens after all the pre flop action.
Sure enough, the [10d] came right on the turn, and now the double queens were looking set to chop the massive three way pot. However, that card also putting three diamonds on board, and with Azizian holding [As][Ac], he needed the board to pair to win. The [5d] came on the river, suddenly making Sargsyan’s [Qc][Qd] the winner with a flush, and leaving Azizian frozen in shock, as several players at the table took pictures of the board.
Azizian remains in the event with an average stack still, while Sargsyan is suddenly one of the top stacks with over 11 million.
